Defensible Space

What is Defensible Space?

Defensible space is the buffer between your home and the surrounding vegetation, such as grass, trees, shrubs, and other wildland fuels. Maintaining this space helps slow the spread of wildfire and reduces the risk of flames or wind-driven embers igniting your home. Studies show that homes with well-maintained defensible space are far more likely to survive a wildfire—even if firefighters cannot reach the property in time.

How We Can Help

We are a general contractor within Oregon who can assess your home and property and design the area around your home to reduce wildfire spread by incorporating fire-resistant vegetation and noncombustible materials. Common services we provide include:

  • Replace grass immediately outside the home with gravel or flagstone

  • Remove trees or other structures away from the home to prevent the spread of fire

  • Replacing existing exterior elements of a home with nonflammable materials, such as tile, sheet metal, slate, brick, aluminum or stone

  • Add a metal, or other non-combustible gate to existing wood fencing

  • Install metal angle flashing between the siding of your home and your decks or wooden porch

  • And much more!
